From wooden carvings and lime work to modern day facades, Ahmedabad amasses all and stands strong with an unwavering charm. With its foundation laid back in 1411 A.D. by Ahmed Shah, the city oozes variety in every possible way.
The transition from old to new Ahmedabad is effortless. Lying on the banks of Sabarmati, we have happily created pseudo names – Nadi ke is paar and Nadi ke us paar. These names are simple yet indicative of different parts of the city. Nadi ke is paar boasts of the rich cultural heritage. Sidi Saiyyed Mosque exudes Hindu craftsmanship with hints of Persian Culture. The carvings on the havelis in the pol area are symbolic of the old age architecture. The beauty of the city is in the way the two parts get connected with bridges.
On one side of the bridge lies the old Ahmedabad which still smells of lip smacking street food, bustling markets loaded with varieties of every household item, jewellery shops and of course the railway station.On the other end lies the modern or the new Ahmedabad which is adorned with tall buildings with attractive facades, large and open spaces, playgrounds, international schools, hospitals, shopping malls and eateries.
The best part of Ahmedabad is its people who are spirited and attached to the roots. The most populous city of Gujarat is full of people who are proud to be Amdavadis. Some have happily migrated to the modern day city for ease of lifestyle but their hearts still reside in the old city which is home to their childhood memories. Shopping for family weddings must happen from Dhalgarwad and Raipur is still the place to go for the best bhajiyas in town. We prefer to send our kids to schools in the newer part of the city but we still prefer to shop and eat at Manek Chowk. Best medical care is available here in the multispecialty hospitals but Kali Chaudas is still the day to visit Bhadrakali Temple.
This undying spirit of the Amdavadis makes the city special. A city that has its roots in heritage and has today bloomed into a city with a beautiful skyline that is fulfilling dreams and aspiration of all.
